Die Forging and Copper
Also referred to as impression die forging this process differs
from copper open-die forging in that the copper alloy is shaped completely
inside the walls of two dies that come together. Your copper products
are brought to a virtual "near net shape" of your final product.
Although there are tooling charges associated with this process
these costs are recovered many times over by the cost savings listed
below. There are 4 distinct advantages associated with copper closed
die forgings and they include:
- -The ability to form the copper into complex shapes with closer
dimensional tolerances.
- -The production of copper parts that are "near net shape"
reduces the amount of input copper material that goes into the product
and offers cost savings on raw copper material.
- -By producing "near net shape" copper parts the
machining requirements are greatly reduced over that of the open die
process offering further cost savings per part.
- -The cost of copper tooling over higher volume is insignificant
in the piece price therefore offering the most economical solution
for higher volume production programs.
-Although initial deliveries of the copper parts may be longer than
those in the open die process typically a release program accompanies
this process and delivery dates can be set up in advance.
