Rolled Ring Forging and Copper
The rolled ring process minimizes copper material usage used in the
manufacture of annular ring forgings. Raw copper material is pierced
or punched from its center and then placed on a mandrel and drawn out
circumferentially to create a ring. Like copper open die forging
there is a lot of flexibility in the size and shape of the copper products
that you can make. Circumferential grain flow ensures that the strength
and reliability of your copper part is maintained by this process. The
advantages of using the rolled ring process include:
- -Cost savings over the closed die process in that no additional
tooling charges are required
- -Effective process for low volume or larger-sized copper rings
- -Significant copper material savings compared to the use of plate
for example a 32¨ OD x 21¨ ID x 3¨ thick ring would yield
over a 66% material savings using the rolled ring process.
- -The machining required is minimized because this process brings
the copper product to a near net shape.
